The post-baccalaureate program of study consisting of 94 credit hours will prepare graduates to attain certification as psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners. Students are prepared for evidence-based psychiatric mental health nursing practice with culturally diverse populations across the lifespan in a variety of mental health care settings.
Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners can assess, diagnose and treat individuals with psychiatric disorders. Areas of sub-specialty include child and adolescent mental health nursing, gerontological-psychiatric nursing, forensics, and substance use disorders among others.
LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing is the only nursing school in Louisiana within an academic health sciences center and the only National League for Nursing designated Nursing Center of Excellence for Nursing Education in the state.
